The Global Talent Route to ILR

The Global Talent visa is designed for leaders and emerging leaders in academia, research, arts and culture, and digital technology. It is one of the most flexible UK visa routes and offers a fast track to settlement.

The ILR qualifying period depends on your endorsement type:

  • Exceptional talent: 3 years of continuous residence.
  • Exceptional promise: 5 years of continuous residence.

Requirements for ILR

To apply for ILR on the Global Talent route, you need:

  • Continuous residence: Meeting the continuous residence requirement for 3 or 5 years.
  • Continued contribution: Evidence that you have continued to work in and contribute to your endorsed field.
  • Life in the UK test: Must be passed. See our test guide.
  • English language: B1 level. Most Global Talent visa holders are from English-speaking backgrounds or work in English, making this straightforward.
  • Good character: See our good character guide.

There is no salary threshold. Your continued engagement with your field is what matters. For background on the English language requirement, see our English test guide.
