UK Student Visa by Country: Find Your Guide
What you need to know
- •Core requirements (CAS, financial evidence, English) are the same for all countries.
- •TB testing is mandatory for applicants from countries on the GOV.UK list.
- •Financial evidence is converted from local currency at the exchange rate on your application date.
- •Processing times and visa centre availability vary significantly by country.
- •Some nationalities need ATAS clearance for certain postgraduate courses.
The UK Student Visa has the same core requirements regardless of where you apply from, but country-specific factors such as TB testing, currency conversion, ATAS clearance, and processing times can significantly affect your application. This hub connects you to country-specific guides and highlights the key differences you need to be aware of.

Country-Specific Guides
We have detailed guides for the countries that send the most students to the UK:
For country-specific immigration guides covering all visa routes (not just students), see our country guides:
Key Differences by Region
South Asia
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka all require a TB test. Financial evidence must be held in local currency and will be converted to GBP. VFS Global operates visa centres in all major cities. See our South Asia regional guide for shared requirements.
China
Chinese students must take a TB test and may need ATAS clearance for certain postgraduate courses. VFS centres are available in over a dozen cities. Processing typically takes 3-4 weeks.
Sub-Saharan Africa
Most Sub-Saharan African countries require TB testing. Processing times can be longer than average. Financial evidence should show funds held for the full 28 days in local currency. See our country guides for Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.
Middle East
Most Middle Eastern countries do not require TB testing. Financial evidence in local currencies is accepted. See our Middle East regional guide.
Europe
EU and EEA nationals now need a Student visa to study in the UK (post-Brexit). There is no TB test requirement. English language exemptions may apply if you have a degree taught in English. See our guides for France, Germany, and Italy.
North America and Australasia
Nationals of the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are typically exempt from English language testing as nationals of majority English-speaking countries. No TB test is required. See our North America and Australasia guides.
