Refusal Rates and Common Reasons

The UK Visitor Visa refusal rate for Indian nationals is approximately 12-15%. While the majority of applications succeed, understanding why refusals happen helps you prepare a stronger application. The most common refusal reasons for Indian applicants are:

  • Insufficient financial evidence. Not showing enough consistent income or savings. Large deposits made just before the application are suspicious. See our financial evidence guide.
  • Weak ties to India. The Home Office needs to be convinced you will return. Strong ties include a stable job, property, family, and business interests in India.
  • Vague purpose of visit. Not being specific about why you are visiting, where you will stay, and what you plan to do.
  • Previous immigration issues. Any previous overstay or visa refusal (UK or other countries) counts against you.
  • Inconsistencies. Information on the application form that does not match your supporting documents.

For more on refusal reasons, see our refusal reasons guide and visa refused guide.

TB Test Requirements

A TB test is not required for a standard 6-month Visitor Visa. However, if you are applying for an 11-month Short-Term Study visa, you do need a TB test from an approved IOM clinic in India. Clinics are available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and other major cities.

Financial Evidence for Indian Applicants

Indian applicants should provide:

  • Bank statements: 3-6 months from your primary bank account showing regular salary credits and consistent balances. Use official stamped statements from the bank.
  • Employment letter: From your employer on company letterhead confirming your role, salary, and approved leave dates.
  • ITR (Income Tax Returns): Last 2-3 years of filed returns strengthen your application.
  • Property documents: If you own property in India, include copies as evidence of ties.
  • Business documents: If self-employed, include GST registration, business accounts, and ITR.

Avoid showing large unexplained deposits shortly before your application. If a family member or sponsor is funding the trip, include their financials plus a sponsor letter.
