How to Track Your Application
UKVI Online Account
If you applied online through GOV.UK, you will have a UKVI online account. Log in to check for status updates. The account shows whether your application is being processed, whether additional information has been requested, and when a decision has been made.
Email Notifications
The Home Office sends email notifications at key stages. Ensure the email address on your application is correct and regularly check your spam folder. You will receive an email when a decision is made on your application.
Visa Application Centre (Overseas Applicants)
If you applied from overseas through a Visa Application Centre (VAC), the centre may offer its own tracking service. Check the centre's website for tracking tools. Some centres also send SMS updates.
Expected Processing Times
The Skilled Worker visa processing time depends on how you applied:
- Outside the UK (standard): 3-8 weeks from biometrics appointment.
- Inside the UK (standard): 8 weeks.
- Priority: 5 working days after biometrics.
- Super priority: Next working day after biometrics.
See our priority vs super priority comparison for details on faster processing options.
When to Contact the Home Office
Do not contact the Home Office before the published processing time has elapsed. Premature enquiries are unlikely to speed things up and may slow the process.
If the processing time has passed, you can contact the Home Office through the contact methods available. Include your application reference number and the date you applied.

What to Do While Waiting
- If you are in the UK and your visa expired after you applied, Section 3C leave protects your status.
- Do not travel unless absolutely necessary (especially if on Section 3C leave).
- Respond promptly to any requests for additional information from the Home Office.
- Keep your contact details up to date.
